DRB Sabre Hardtop

The front two thirds on the mid 60's Ferrari 250 LM.

It is not a Ferrari, Porsche, or Lamborghini but when finished will be a real eye turner.
Here is a chance to build a car that will hold its own with a corvette, Nissan GTR or 350.

Designed by Denis R Bedford of Cobra, XJ13 and Ford GT40 replica vehicles fame.
Trading under the name DRB sportscars in 1981 Denis R Bedford commenced fulltime production
of the Volkswagen based kitcar named the SABRE,
this was the first in a rage of Volkswagon based cars that included the
Magnum, Marauder, Aztec and the Sabre Mk 2.

Year model approx.1983.

Original DRB Sabre Kit Car based on a VW Type 3 automatic chassis,
which has the excellent suspension. All the hard work has been done:
Body shell off and VW type 3 chassis has been restored
by a professional marine engineer, is rust free and painted.

The rear third of the car is 'loosely' based on the Ford GT40 Super car,

ENGINE This is a rear engine and radiator installation with more than adequate air scoops venting into the rear engine compartment. EA 82 1.8 litre Subaru L Series overhead cam engine Engine good compression. New lifters fitted left side. New lifters for right side to be fitted New head gaskets, New Oil pump seals and O rings fitted This car when registered in WA had a twin turbo 3 Litre Nissan Motor. If I completed it I was tossing up using an electric motor or a WRX turbo as they are an east swap
FUEL New Subaru fuel tank New electric fuel pump
	GEARBOX fitted using professionally engineered adapter plate. Linked to a five speed Kombi T3 gearbox. (Worth $3,000 approx) Most kit cars have cheap 4 speed only – so very rare!

EXHAUST SYSTEM New Single System A two into one specially fabricated for the Subaru engine and chassis

CHASSIS Based on a VW Type 3 (1961-1973) automatic transmission. This comes with a much improved rear suspension. Swing axles were replaced by half-shafts, jointed at each end with trailing arms controlling camber angle changes and reducing the over steer which was characteristic of the standard layout.
WHEELS Goodyear Ducaro GA 205/15 on Ford Mags Same Rolling Diameter as a Type 3 VW - If yo unwanted you have enough room to run 295/15's I have these on my other kit car However, 275/15 would be preferred
DOORS Proper Hinges Windup Windows
RADIATOR This is a rear engine and radiator installation with more than adequate air scoops venting into the rear engine compartment. The two side air scoops are both operational. Oddly enough most air vents on kit cars are fake - these are real and operational
SUSPENSION VW Type three automatic frame standard height but an easy job to lower. FRONT: Transverse torsion bars cross-mounted in the lower tube, so that each individual torsion bar spans the full width of the car, the upper tube containing an anti-roll bar which connects both upper trailing links to each other. REAR: Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) half-shafts, jointed at each end with trailing arms controlling camber angle changes. This set-up gives much safer and very manageable handling.
LIGHTS * New tail light assemblies fitted. * Fitted secondhand headlights -just need wiring up * These are not from a VW as they are nearly worthless (My other car still has them)
